Coffe Baum

300 years of coffee culture in Saxony

A sculpture above the door welcomes visitors to “Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum” museum. The baroque masterpiece shows a man from the East offering a bowl of coffee to a putto, representing the story of the orient making a gift of coffee to the occident.

There are more than 500 exhibits such as coffee grinders, Meissen porcelain, coffee cups (including one used by Napoleon in 1813), roasters, vessels used for making coffee, coffee house rules, coffee substitute, coffee house music and a highly modern sample roaster which can be used to demonstrate the noble art of roasting coffee beans.

15 exhibition rooms large and small surround the lovely inner courtyard and the historic structure of the rooms is carefully integrated into the exhibition’s arrangement.
The more than 500 items on display give an unpretentious insight into the highlights and special features of Saxon coffee culture.
